Art from the Middle East – Gulf Region
(Dubai) Photographers in the Gulf and around the world were invited to participate in the 2nd annual International Ramadan Photography Competition by taking photographs of anything and everything related to the holy month of Ramadan. As we know, Ramadan is a very special occasion for Muslim people and is very rich in its traditions, be they cultural or religious. And this was the impetus for launching of the “Capture the Spirit of Ramadan” International Photography Competition™, to share with the world the colors, emotions and flavors that are unique to Ramadan while providing an international platform for photographers to share their work.
“Ramadan scenes are diverse and we expect a smorgasbord of photos covering special traditions to iftar gatherings and prayers at mosques around the world” says Basel Almisshal Founder and Chief Creative Director of StudioBasel for Creative Solutions, the Arab-American creative arts firm that organizes the competition.
Lina Ali, Senior Director of Marketing at StudioBasel informed Gulfography that the organization has received more than 1,000 photos from over 40 countries last year of which 600 were accepted into the competition. “We received photos from almost all Arab countries, Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and even Mexico and Russia. We are happy that many otherwise unknown photographers are being featured in international photo essays and media coverage and we hope to collaborate with international museums and galleries to exhibit some of these amazing works and create more exposure opportunities for the photographers”, she said.
Gulfography is proud to share a selection of these great photographs taken by some of the participants in this year’s competition.
If you are a talented amateur or professional photographer above the age of 18 and would like to take part in this great initiative please log onto www.capturethespiritoframadan.org for information on how to submit your photos before the end of Ramadan.
